Tension Over Parliament Debate Spills Over to Temple Mount in Jerusalem

Tension generated by Tuesday’s planned discussion in Israel’s parliament about legislation to formally annex Jerusalem’s Temple Mount has spilled-over to the holy site. Israeli police entered the Al-Aqsa compound, a Muslim holy site, to neutralize rock-throwers angry over the planned discussion. Two policemen were injured in the confrontation. Israeli officials are mostly opposed to the bill which was offered by Moshe Feiglin, a right-wing lawmaker known for hard-line views. The Temple Mount is located in east Jerusalem, an area acquired in the 1967 war that has already been formally annexed as part of Israel.  Administration of the Al-Aqsa site and other holy places has been delegated to Islamic authority.
