Terrorists dressed as medics stormed a hospital in the Afghan capital of Kabul across from the heavily fortified American Embassy, killing 38 and wounding dozens more. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack which continued for several hours. It began when a suicide bomber blew himself up at the rear of the 400-bed military hospital, and three terrorists with automatic weapons and hand grenades entered the complex. The dead included doctors, patients and hospital staff in the hospital which treats military casualties from around Afghanistan. A Defense Ministry spokesman said that by mid-afternoon all three terrorists had been killed. Afghan government officials have previously warned that high-profile attacks in the country were likely to escalate this year.
