The Information Front

Speaking with a colleague shortly after President Biden announced he would not be his party’s standard-bearer in November’s election, we noted the intensity of the current news cycle and pondered whether it would ever temper its intensity long enough for a bit of R&R and a well-deserved (if we do say so!) opportunity to catch our breaths.

The concentration of “must-cover” stories that have come our way since October 7 alone is daunting. Maintaining our readers’ trust and confidence while debunking journalism’s new pretenders is a Herculean task. Yet, the words we are humbled to hear about our professional cadre of correspondents are “trustworthy,” “truthful,” and “accurate.”

But here is the caveat: normally, it is a costly venture to maintain a staff of talented journalists. Costs skyrocket when covering wars, and simultaneously adding the most significant elections in recent history is enough to make the bean counters scream.
