The Land of the Chinese Curse (with VIDEO)

Some argue the Chinese curse – “Be careful what you wish for because you might get it” – should be renamed to reflect its vibrant presence in the Holy Land. The case at hand is the upcoming three-day visit by Prince William to the region that begins on June 25. The growing issue to the Jewish state is that while Israelis have, for years, urged a visit by a member of the British Royal Family, now that William’s trip is imminent the putative future King of England has seemingly not missed a chance to side with the Palestinians even before he arrives in the region. First came Kensington Palace’s announcement that rather than the Palestinian Territories, Prince William will visit “The Occupied Palestinian Territories.” To many Israelis, that alone would have been sufficiently offensive, but it became worse when it was announced that William’s visit to the Western Wall, Judaism’s holiest site, would come as part of his tour of Palestinian sites. Except for two private visits by his father to Jerusalem, no member of the royal family has made an official visit to the Jewish state despite its large British ex-expatriate community and the close relationship the governments of the U.K. and Israel have maintained. Reactions heard by The Media Line include calls to dis-invite the royal tourist and to have Prince William make a public declaration that he is in Jerusalem, Israel at the moment. One Jerusalemite told a reporter for The Media Line that the government should block William’s arrival into the country. The Israeli minister responsible for the city of Jerusalem, Ze’ev Elkin, issued a statement that sounded like a demand. Referring to the obvious belief that the Palace has it wrong, Elkin said, “I’m expecting the prince’s staff to fix this distortion.”
