The Last Sermon Wins Prix de l’Espoir at Tunisian Human Rights Film Festival

The Last Sermon, the sequel to Jack Baxter’s Blues by the Beach, the 2004 cinema verité-style film of the bombing of Mike’s Place pub on the beach in Tel Aviv one year earlier, has been awarded the Prix de l’espoir at the 6th Annual International Human Rights Film Festival of Tunis. The Media Line is featured prominently in the film with footage shot at TML’s Town Hall meeting in Jerusalem where the film’s principals interacted with prominent Jews, Christians and Muslims, weaving a poignant picture of the biases and hatreds that led to the terrorist attack portrayed in Blues and the search for the terrorists’ families – and answers. Filmmaker Jack Baxter was in Mike’s Place interviewing patrons about life under the threat of terror when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives killing three and wounding a number of others including Baxter. His camera was picked up and the filming continued, chronicling the lethal event that left Baxter comatose for days.
