Despite violent protests and attempts at court injunctions, Jerusalem’s homosexual community will march though the streets of Israel’s capital on Thursday. Thousands of regular police officers and Border Police were ferried into the city early in the day to keep the peace. The main threat to marchers comes from the haredi community – Jewish Israelis who believe in strict adherence to rabbinic law. Haredis clashed with police officers throughout the week when anti-march demonstrations became violent. Dozens of people were arrested.
