Three Naturalized Australians Guilty of Plotting Suicide Attack Against Army

An Australian court has found three men guilty of planning a suicide attack at an Australian army base. The defendants, who are naturalized citizens who immigrated from Somalia and Lebanon respectively, were said to believe that Islam was under threat from Western nations. Two men were found not guilty in the same incident. The alleged plan was to send gunmen with automatic weapons into an army base outside of Sydney with orders to continue firing until they are killed by return fire. Prosecutors said the defendants had traveled to Somalia for approval by an Islamist cleric and that they had ties to Al-Qa’ida’s Al-Shabaab group.
