Trump Administration Sets New Immigration Guidelines for Incoming from 6 Muslim States

Following President Trump’s partial victory in the Supreme Court on his immigration regulations for citizens of six Muslim states, the administration has issued rules to set the policies in motion. Those seeking a new visa who are citizens of Yemen, Libya, Iran, Sudan Somalia and Syria who wish to enter the United States must prove a relationship with a close relative (brother, sister, son/daughter-in law, adult son/daughter, parent, spouse, child) already in the US. All visas already issued will be honored. Relationships not allowed for entry are brothers/sisters-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members. Fiancées, too, are not able to bring their intendeds into the US to join them. Businesses and academic institutions will need to present firm proof of compliance with the new guidelines, but consular officials will have discretion in extending waivers to individuals who can prove substantial existing contacts in America.
