US President Donald Trump is reportedly preparing to dispatch negotiations-envoy Jason Greenblatt to the region to map out what the new round of talks – and the first negotiations since the Kerry-Go-Round screeched to a halt in 2014 – will look like. After his first trip to meet with Israeli and Palestinian leadership, Greenblatt, a foreign affairs novice, was said by both sides to have received high marks for his ability to listen and for his integrity. President Trump is believed to want a framework for the negotiations drawn up and the talks begun. Palestinians believe that unlike in past scenarios, the difficult core issues including the status of Jerusalem, borders, and the so-called right of return – will be part of the talks from the onset – a position with which the Israelis disagree.
