Trump Expected To Establish Safe Zones in Syria

President Donald Trump said that he will “absolutely do safe zones in Syria” for refugees fleeing the almost six-year-old conflict. In an interview with ABC News Trump said that Europe had made a tremendous mistake by admitting millions of refugees from Syria and other countries and said, “I don’t want that to happen here.” Some analysts said it could mean more US involvement in the war in Syria. At the same time, the new US President is expected to stop accepting Syrian refugees in the US. The president also plans to suspend issuing visas for people from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria or Yemen for at least 30 days. A statement from the White House say all of the countries have a “propensity to do us harm”, and all have been listed as state sponsors of terrorism in the past. All are predominantly Muslim countries. Critics charge that the move could encourage Islamophobia in the US.
