US President Donald Trump warned Iran against upping its enrichment of uranium, but left the door open to lifting economic sanctions on the mullahs to pave the way for a possible meeting with President Hassan Rouhani later this month on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. Asked if he was considering easing the financial burden on Tehran, President Trump replied, “we will see what happens,” before qualifying that it would be “very, very dangerous” for the Islamic Republic to boost its enriched uranium stockpiles. He added that the US would ensure that the Iranians “will [never] have a nuclear weapon.” The US leader’s comments came a day after he accepted the resignation of national security adviser John Bolton, over a reported disagreement regarding a prospective change in the White House’s Iran policy.
