Trump Position on Israel Infuriates Palestinian Leadership

A far cry from the cool and somewhat angry reaction by Israel’s supporters and guarded optimism of Palestinian officials early-on in the presidential primary cycle to Republican now-candidate Donald Trump’s assertion that he was not going to wax partisan on the Israeli-Palestinian track of the Middle East conflict, recent Trump’s embrace of Jerusalem as the “undivided capital of the state of Israel” is eliciting unbridled anger among Palestinians. Typical of the Palestinian reaction is chief negotiator and secretary general of the Palestine Liberation Organization Sa’ib Erakat’s indignant statement accusing Trump of showing “disregard for international law … regarding the status of Jerusalem, including the occupation and illegal annexation of occupied East Jerusalem.” Erakat singled out the Trump campaign’s adviser on Israel, New York attorney David Friedman, for a personal dressing-down, accusing him of showing “a total abandonment of the two-state solution, international law and UN resolutions.” [read TML’s interview with Friedman at https://themedialine.org/featured/trumps-israel-gatekeeper-like-boss-no-room-pc/ [1]]
