TSA Puts Laptops into Checked Luggage on Mideast Carriers Flying to the US

Travelers flying between select Arab world airports and the United States who need to use their laptops or other electronic devices larger than a cellphone will have to make other arrangements. The American TSA had ordered all such electronics on US-bound flights aboard seven airlines be placed in checked baggage. The edict applies to Turkish Air, which is one of the top airlines in and out of Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport. Others are Royal Jordanian Airlines, Egypt Air, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Kuwait Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Qatar Airways, Emirates and Etihad Airways. The airports are Cairo; Istanbul; Kuwait City; Doha, Qatar; Casablanca, Morocco; Amman, Jordan; Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; and Dubai and Abu Dhabi. A parallel series of rules has been imposed by the United Kingdom, which has included its own flag-carrier, British Airways, in the list. Both nations cited “unspecified security threats” the reason for the ban.
