Turkey’s Prime Minister confirmed that the Turkish military attacked the main Kurdish force in northern Syria. The force, which is known as the PYD, said Turkey shot at its forces in the town of Tal Abyad with machine guns after the town was included in a Kurdish enclave. Analysts said the attack may be timed to coincide with Turkey’s parliamentary elections next week in which Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hopes to consolidate his power. Turkey’s Prime Minister said the country has warned the PYD not to go west of the Euphrates River. The PYD has been an important ally to the US-led coalition which is battling Islamic State. Turkey says that the force, which is affiliated with Turkey’s Kurdish rebels – is a terrorist organization.
