Turkish authorities reportedly have concluded that prominent Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was deliberately murdered last week in Riyadh’s consulate in Istanbul. “Based on their initial findings, the police believe that the journalist was killed by a team especially sent to Istanbul and who left the same day,” an anonymous Turkish official was quoted as saying on Saturday. Khashoggi, a Washington Post contributor and critic of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, went missing last Tuesday after entering the mission for administrative reasons. A preliminary investigation found that 15 Saudis, including government officials, arrived in the city hours before Khashoggi’s disappearance and were at the consulate at the same time as the reporter. Official Saudi media as well as Khashoggi’s Turkish fiancée rejected the allegations. Khashoggi has since September 2017 lived in self-imposed exile in the United States to avoid possible arrest.
