Turkey to Push War Crimes Investigations Against Israel, Hamas

Speaking before the United Nations General Assembly on Saturday, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for the Security Council to look into allegations of war crimes committed by Israel and Hamas that appeared in the Goldstone Report by the U.N. Human Rights Council. Erdogan himself is deeply involved in Mideast peacemaking, and has served as an intermediary between Israel and the Palestinians; and has brokered indirect talks between Israel and Syria. He has been vocal in urging the disparate Palestinian factions to reconcile, suggesting that there will be no peace without a unified Palestinian position. Erdogan announced his willingness to continue to pursue both tracks. Turkey presently serves as a temporary member of the Security Council.
