The average household size in Turkey has declined over the past eight years, according to statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) on Wednesday. The data shows a decrease in the proportion of families with more than two people, from 66.9% in 2015 to 63.8% in 2023. Conversely, the number of single-person households has risen from 14.4% in 2015 to 19.7% in 2023.

The statistics also reveal an increase in the average age of Turkish mothers giving birth for the first time. In 2001, the average age was 26.7; in 2023, it had risen to 29.2.
