For the first time, twins have been born through in vitro fertilization using the sperm of a Palestinian prisoner that was smuggled past Israeli prison guards. The father of the baby girls is Ahmad Al-Mughrabi of Bethlehem, whose wife told him about the babies’ birth through Ma’an television, referring to “this accomplishment in defiance of the occupation.” In a previous case of fertilization with smuggled sperm, when the baby was born the Israeli authorities refused to register the birth claiming the prisoner had no children when incarcerated so there is no status as “father.”
