U.S. Airways Wants to Fly Philadelphia-Tel Aviv Daily

U.S. Airways has requested permission to begin flying daily non-stop flights between Philadelphia and Tel Aviv. If both the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Israeli government approve the request, the flights will begin next July. The route will be flown by new Airbus 330 200-series aircraft that the carrier has on order and are scheduled for delivery in 2009. U.S. Airways is in the process of expanding its international routes, eyeing the addition of India, Turkey and Russia, as well as Israel, from the Philadelphia gateway. Philadelphia-Tel Aviv will be the longest haul at about 5,700 miles. Delta Airlines recently began flying non-stop between Atlanta and Tel Aviv and Continental, which has two non-stop flights from Newark each day, cites Tel Aviv as the carrier’s most profitable route.
