United States President Donald Trump’s envoy for Middle East peace condemned an Israeli organization for encouraging the assassination of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. The denunciation comes after the far-right Derech Chaim group distributed posters throughout the West Bank showing the Palestinian leader’s face in the crosshairs of rifles and including the Hebrew words “assassinate the murder funders.” In response, White House Special Representative for International Negotiations Jason Greenblatt wrote in a tweet that, “Just like I condemn incitement from the Palestinian side, I condemn the incitement calling for the assassination of President Abbas. This is completely unacceptable! All peace-loving people should condemn actions like this as well.” The fliers were circulated two days after the Ofra terrorist attack, which Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu attributed to the PA’s dissemination of anti-Israel propaganda through official media organs. Abbas repeatedly has come under heavy criticism for his so-called “pay-to-slay” policy of providing monthly stipends to Palestinian terrorists imprisoned in Israel.
