Basic pro-Israel campaign rhetoric that speaks of the American-Israeli relationship as being “unshakeable” fails to include reference to Washington’s concerns that Israel’s trade with China could conceivably jeopardize American security. A visiting U.S. official reportedly shared those concerns with Israeli counterparts, including the Chinese propensity for “predatory economics” and infrastructure investments made in other countries that have not been “a happy story.” When The Media Line asked U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), arguably one of the Jewish state’s closest friends in Congress about American security concerns, he was blunt in asserting concerns that fears of compromising the nation’s security could be deleterious to the relationship. During a stop in Israel while leading a bipartisan tour of the Middle East, United States Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) weighed-in on the matter of Iranian uranium enrichment, offering a solid suggestion rather than stoking fears. Speaking to The Media Line after holding a news conference in Jerusalem, Graham repeated his assertion that there are already fifteen nations that have nuclear power but do not have their own source of supply of fuel. Graham suggested that Iran fall into that category along with Middle Eastern countries that have expressed the desire to obtain nuclear power. The Senator was adamant in his insistence that the so-called “two-state solution” is the only course for peace. Despite his well-known commitment to the Mideast, Graham admonished that “if the parties opt for one-state, “I’m out.”
