U.S. Officials: It Was Israel in Sudan Strike

American officials have confirmed that Israel carried out the January air strike in Sudanese territory that destroyed a convoy of trucks allegedly bearing arms to be smuggled into the Gaza Strip through Egypt. 39 people died in the attack. The story broke when a Sudanese government minister blamed the U.S. for the incident. But the New York Times obtained confirmation from American officials that the attacking jets were Israeli even though the Israelis themselves will not comment on the raid. The raid took place during the 22-days of fighting against Hamas in Gaza and was aimed at preventing additional arms from reaching the terrorist organization. A spokesman for the Sudanese government told the Times that it does not distinguish between the United States and Israel. "They are all one," the paper quoted him as saying.
