U.S. Plans to Incorporate Israeli Missile Defense in Regional Defense Network

The sophisticated missile defense system that protects Israel from Iranian and Syrian attacks will become part of the American regional defense system according to Lt. Gen. Patrick O’Reilly, head of the Pentagon’s Missile Defense Agency. In an interview with Defense News, O’Reilly said that the U.S. plans to benefit from the Israeli system, the only such system that is multi-tiered and offers protection from a variety of missile threats. The Israeli systems, including Arrow anti-missile missiles, were developed jointly with the United States using mostly American funding. O’Reilly told Defense News that under the regional scenario, Israel could well be expected to use its defensive umbrella to defend its sworn enemies. The Israeli defensive package includes the Iron Dome; Arrow; Patriot and in-development, David’s sling.
