The United States wants the United Nations to carry out a more intensive search for Syrian nuclear sites. The Washington Post reports that the U.S. has already identified three sites besides the one destroyed by Israel at Al Kibar last September, and that the information has been turned over to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the U.N. nuclear watchdog. Although Syria denies the facility targeted by Israel was a nuclear reactor nearing completion as the U.S. claims, it has nevertheless refused to allow an inspection of the site by the IAEA. The U.S. believes Syria has support facilities that, among other tasks, supplies nuclear fuel rods for a reactor.
