U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Monday morning that the U.S. would call for U.N. Security Council action on the Israel-Hizbullah conflict "this week." Speaking in Jerusalem, Rice said that the action would be based on the creation of a cease-fire, the furtherance of political principles that would lead to a long-term solution and the insertion of a "stabilization force" that "always acts in support of Lebanon’s armed forces." Rice called the measures "important yet temporary" and called on the international community to support the American proposals in the United Nations.
