The Arabic-language Al-Ittihad has published an interview with the head of Dubai’s police force in which Chief Dahi Khalfan Tamim revealed that a suspect in the assassination of Hamas operative Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh in Dubai in January has been arrested in a western country. Tamim did not reveal who or where, nor did he address the question of the suspect’s extradition to Dubai. Israel has been widely suspected of carrying out the hit, which resulted in diplomatic tiffs between Jerusalem and a number of friendly nations that were incensed over Israel’s use of identities taken from the passports of their citizens who live in the Jewish state. Several Israeli diplomats were expelled from the countries in which they were posted. Tamim is also claiming that Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency has made threats against his life.
