UN Aid Convoys Cancelled after Deadly Raid on Civilians; US Pins Blame on Russia

Whether the deadly raid on an aid convoy bringing desperately needed humanitarian goods to besieged citizens of Aleppo was carried out by Russian or Syrian forces, the United States is blaming Moscow for the incident. Following the attack on the aid convoy on Monday night, the United Nations suspended all of its aid convoys. Reports from the scene indicate that of the 31 trucks in the convoy, 18 were completely destroyed as bombing runs continued for two hours. Some 100 tons of food, baby formula and medicine were completely destroyed in what the American military insists was an air strike by the Russian or Syrian air forces. As Syria’s patron, the US says Moscow is in control and responsible. The Russians defense ministry is claiming that a cargo fire caused the damage. Eyewitnesses to the recent attacks have stressed the length and intensity of the bombing and the devastation left in their wake. Syrian civil defense officials have reported seeing Russian reconnaissance flights prior to each attack, prompting the conclusion that the vicious air strikes actually targeted the aid convoys.
