Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas last week sent messages to world leaders explaining the reasons behind the Palestinian decision to ask the UN to accept Palestine as a non-member state and urging them to support this bid, PA Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki told the Al-Ayyam daily yesterday.
Waiting until after the presidential election in the U.S., the UN vote is likely to take place either on November 15 or November 29, which coincides with the International Solidarity Day with the Palestinian people.
Based on latest discussions within the Palestinian leadership, Palestinian officials expect the vote to take place on November 15, but Malki said that the exact date depends on the finalization of the Palestinian resolution draft to be submitted to the UN.
