United Nations To Publish Blacklist Of Israeli Companies Operating In West Bank

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human rights is readying to publish a controversial blacklist of companies operating in Jewish communities in the West Bank, Golan Heights and the eastern part of Jerusalem, thereby exposing them to potential legal action. The list, comprised of corporations that do business in areas captured by the Jewish state in the 1967 war, will be released next month at a meeting of the notoriously anti-Israel Human Rights Council. Among the Israeli companies informed they may be named are pharmaceutical manufacturer Teva, defense firm Elbit and two of the country’s largest financial institutions, Bank Hapoalim and Bank Leumi. Both Israel and the United States oppose the list’s release—which has led to previous delays—on the grounds that it could add fuel to the boycott, divestment, sanctions movement and possibly pressure companies to relocate abroad.
