Unrest Continues to Spread in Jerusalem’s Eastern Neighborhoods

The rioting, rock throwing and window smashing that has been ongoing in east Jerusalem neighborhoods for several days continued on Saturday night with new attacks on the city’s light rail system, a Jewish seminary, and security officers.  Molotov cocktails entered the mix as residents of heavily Arab areas protested the shooting death by soldiers on Friday of a Palestinian man who threw a Molotov cocktail onto a major roadway. The incident, which is being investigated, followed a terror attack on Wednesday in which a 3-month old Jewish Israeli baby was killed when a 21-year old Palestinian man plowed his vehicle at high speed into passengers alighting from the light rail system. The street violence has been virtually non-stop since that incident occurred.  Security forces are bracing for more trouble on Sunday when the funeral for a teenager shot to death by Israeli troops during a violent demonstration on Friday. The boy, Orwa Hammad, holds US citizenship as did the Israeli infant killed on Wednesday.
