US and Turkey Join in Second Round of Joint Patrols in Syria

Turkish armored vehicles joined up with American forces for a second joint patrol of northeastern Syria on Tuesday. It’s part of an agreement to create a safe-zone where the YPG – the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units – is based. While the US has fought side-by-side with the group in the war against the Islamic State, Turkey views its fighters as terrorists linked to the Kurdish People’s Party –PKK – which has been fighting against the Turkish government since 1984. The fear is that the Turkish army will jump at a chance to obliterate the YPG based on numerous threats voiced by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
