US Captures Man Wanted in 2012 Killing of Four Americans in Benghazi

A man believed to have been key to the 2012 attack on the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi and the murders of Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three others has been apprehended by US special forces. The suspect, Mustafa Al-Imam, was captured on the northern coast, transferred to a US Naval vessel in Misrata. He will be flown to the United States where he will be tried before a federal court. Al-Imam’s nationality has not been specified, but officials are quoted in news reports as saying the mission to capture him was authorized by President Trump and that the Government of National Accord which is the ruling body of Libya was informed about the operation. Al-Imam follows the same path as the mastermind of the group that perpetrated the attack. Ahmad Abu Khatallah was captured in a joint military/FBI operation in 2014 and is awaiting trial in the United States.
