US First Lady Jill Biden Arrives in Morocco Following Visits to Egypt, Jordan

In a continuing tour of the Middle East and North Africa, US first lady Jill Biden arrived in Marrakech, Morocco, on Saturday, accompanied by her daughter Ashley Biden and sister Bonny Jacobs. She was welcomed by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa at Marrakech-Ménara Airport, alongside other officials such as the governor of the Marrakech-Safi region, Karim Kassi-Lahlou, and US Ambassador to Morocco Puneet Talwar.

Biden’s visit follows her time in Egypt where she toured the ancient pyramids and Sphinx of Giza and Al Azhar Mosque, a notable Islamic landmark known for its rich history, distinctive minarets, expansive courtyard, and status as the site of the oldest university in the world. The first lady met with young Egyptian activists focused on interfaith dialogue, social justice, and women’s empowerment, promoting the trip’s mission to foster regional partnerships and empower the next generation.

Earlier, Biden attended the royal wedding of Jordan’s Crown Prince Hussein to Rajwa Al Saif in Amman. Following her stay in Morocco, she will conclude her diplomatic tour in Portugal. This trip marks her first visit to the region since US President Joe Biden assumed office.
