US Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and a delegation of Democratic congressmen will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, President Isaac Herzog and Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, as well as other senior Israeli officials during a visit to Israel that began on Wednesday. Pelosi said the US and Israel are “together in the fight against terrorism posed by Iran,” during an official ceremony at the Knesset on Wednesday morning. “The nuclear threat by Iran is a global one. It is a threat to the world,” Pelosi said, adding “Israel’s proximity to Iran is a concern to all of us and a responsibility for all of us.” Pelosi also called the establishment of the State of Israel the “greatest political achievement of the 20th century.” She added that “I am very proud that America is Israel’s oldest ally.” She received a standing ovation in the Knesset. Pelosi inscribed the visitor’s book at the Knesset. “The security bond between the United States and Israel is ironclad. Our friendship is eternal,” she wrote. The delegation met on Wednesday morning with Israel’s Defense Minister Benny Gantz. They are scheduled to meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas at his Ramallah headquarters in the West Bank.
