US Military Says 90% of American Troops Have Left Afghanistan
The removal of American forces from Afghanistan is nearing completion with a target date of August 31. The exception will be the 650 troops deployed to protect that US Embassy compound in Kabul. Some of those will be assigned to operate the counter-artillery system at Kabul’s airport. Dissenting from the Biden administration’s insistence that the Taliban terrorists will not move to control the nation, critics of the pullout insist, as described in a Washington Post editorial, that “remaining Afghan troops are being wiped out by the Taliban or are surrendering without a fight.” Visas to live in the United States have been offered to about 2,500 Afghani citizens who are in danger because they worked with the American forces. But fewer than half have accepted the offer.
