US National Security Official: Air Strikes in Syria Prevented Attacks on US Interests

According to the White House, the recent strikes against the terrorists known as the Khorasan group in Syria disrupted plans to attack American interests. Khorasan, like ISIS and the Al-Nusra Front, is an off-shoot of the global terror network Al-Qa’ida. Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes told reporters in Washington on Tuesday that the group’s movements have been under surveillance and security organizations have been “tracking plots to conduct attacks in the United States or Europe.” Another official said that attacks were “imminent.” The strikes against the Khorasan group are in addition to strikes against ISIS forces. The American air strikes in Syria have come under criticism from a rebel group that has received arms and support from the United States. The Hazm Movement said “the sole beneficiary of this foreign interference in Syria is the Assad regime, especially in the absence of any real strategy to topple him.”
