President Trump scored a split decision from the Supreme Court regarding his immigration proposals on Wednesday. The court blocked the order of US District Judge Derrick Watson regarding refugees but let stand the judge’s order expanding the list of relatives through which immigrants can apply for entry to the United States. There are 24,000 refugees whose entry to the US was predicated on their assignment to religious or charitable organizations who will not be eligible to enter based on the Supreme Court ruling. They will have to wait for the San Francisco –based Federal Appeals Court to decide specific terms of the administration’s bill. As it stands now, the 90-day ban on refugees from six predominantly Muslim countries remains partially reinstated but the broad list of familial contacts that apply for immigration purposes remains.
