Iran and world powers held a second day of negotiations in Kazakhstan over a new offer to lift some sanctions on Iran if Tehran scales back its nuclear activity. Representatives of the United States, France, Germany, Britain, China and Russia presented the new offer during their first meeting with Iran in eight months. International sanctions are taking a heavy toll on Iran but Iran has continued to move ahead with its nuclear program. The world powers asked Iran to stop enriching uranium to 20 percent and to shut down its Fordo enrichment facility. Iran insists that its nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes and has refused past requests to end its nuclear program. Israel has said that a nuclear Iran would pose an existential threat to the Jewish state.
Waiting for Tehran
