Water and Electricity in Short Supply in the Gaza Strip

The availability of water and electricity is becoming problematic in the Gaza Strip following 23 days of bombing by the Israeli military. Large areas of central Gaza are reported to be without any electricity at all while other areas receive power for as little as 2 hours each day. Gaza’s power station, which is the primary source of electricity, was put out of commission by Israeli bombing two days ago. Other sources, including Israel and Egypt, which supply a portion of the total power, are still doing so. Officials say the water supply is being interrupted and is spotty in most parts of the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, Iran’s deputy foreign minister criticized Egypt for dragging its feet in allowing humanitarian aid to reach Gaza.
