White House Spokesman: President Committed to Diplomacy with Iran

The Bush administration tried on Tuesday to allay fears that the President George W. Bush was considering a military strike against Iran. Spokeswoman Dana Perino said that, "There’s no reason for people to think that the president is about to attack Iran… He doesn’t want people to fear that, because what he is doing is pursuing a diplomatic track." Perino said the president would like Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to "meet with her Iranian counterpart anytime, anywhere, but they’ve yet to take us up on that offer." Last week, International Atomic Agency chief Mohammed El-Baradei accused the American administration of "pouring gasoline on the fire" by making unsubstantiated accusations that Tehran was seeking to build nuclear weapons.
