Woman Member of Popular Front to be Held Longer by Israel

Israel is being subject to severe criticism in world media for exercising “administrative detention” against 55-year of Khalida Jarrar, identified in most reports as a “lawmaker” due to her position in the Palestinian National Council but referred to by Israelis a “terrorist” for her role as member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. The renewed media interest stems from Israeli military authorities extending her detention for an additional four months on top of the year she has already been held. That alone is a red flag for media, Israel being heavily criticized for the mere existence of administrative detention during which time no charges need to be filed and access to legal counsel is spotty at best. Jarrar had already served a 15-month sentence for “incitement to violence” and “promoting terror activities” before being taken under administrative detention. Her main affiliation, the PFLP, is listed as a terrorist organization by both the United States, Israel and a number of Western governments. Not surprisingly, the Israeli justification for detention – presenting a substantial threat – is dismissed by critics of the Jewish state.
