Israel is in the grip of its next election cycle, a mere two-years since the nation last went to the polls to elect a government. While many are focusing on the growing possibility that Binyamin Netanyahu will fall to a left-wing coalition, the nascent story of the 2015 election is the unprecedented showing by women that is taking shape. In a legislature of only 120 seats, polling on average is predicting that 31 of those seats will be held by women, up four from the last government but including 11 who will be new to the parliament (Knesset). The only parties not expected to include female representation are the two Jewish so-called “ultra-Orthodox” parties.
