The World Bank on Friday issued a new report, again imploring Israel to allow Palestinians easier access to goods. The alternative, it says, is for the Palestinians to continue relying on donor nations rather than developing a self-sustaining economy. Donor nations are set to meet on the sidelines of the opening session of the U.N. General Assembly in New York this week. Analysts at The Media Line point out that political considerations continue to complicate matters. While it has been suggested that the recent easing of travel restrictions by the Israelis has spurred the Palestinian economy, some insist that efforts to promote the Palestinian economy are being rebuffed by a counter Palestinian policy of rejecting Israeli measures until Israel accedes to a number of demands.
