WSJ: Mueller Probing Jared Kushner’s Efforts to Defeat Anti-Israel UNSC Resolution

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that special investigator Robert Mueller is probing First Son-in-Law Jared Kushner’s efforts to defeat the United Nations Security Council resolution that former president Barack Obama refused to veto. The measure criticized Israel for its policies of building on West Bank land it conquered in the 1967 war that the Palestinians claim for eventual statehood. The issue was particularly politically charged because of Obama’s friction with the pro-Israel world and the presumption at the time that any US administration would shield Israel from resolutions running counter to its policies. The vote took place in December 2016 — after Donald Trump was elected on a strongly pro-Israel platform but before he was inaugurated. The investigation of Kushner’s actions falls apparently falls within Mueller’s mandate because it involves rumors that President-elect Trump assigned his son-in-law to see whether Russia could be convinced to veto the resolution once it was clear that Obama would not.
