Yemen Signs UN-Brokered Deal After Houti Seizure of Government Headquarters

After Shiite fighters seized the government headquarters building in the capital Sana’a and the prime minister resigned, a UN-brokered peace agreement was signed by the president, UN-envoy and representatives of the warring factions on Sunday evening.  A government of technocrats is to be appointed within one month and President Hadi will immediately appoint advisers from the Houti tribe and separatists from southern Yemen. President Hadi, who replaced longtime autocrat Ali Abdullah Selah, was accused of being an “autocrat” by outgoing Prime Minister Mohammed Basindawa.
