What the Democrats are seeking to do is kill Trump before he kills them. They accuse him of using his powers to discredit Joe Biden, the front-runner for the Democrats in the 2020 presidency. While the world thought that US President Donald Trump has fallen into a trap set by Democrats, Trump seems confident in himself. His plan seems to work much better than people believe. An official inquiry initiated by Democrats in the House of Representatives to impeach the president could turn against the Democrats. Trump has proved incredibly maneuverable and capable of surviving in more than one situation. He survived the Democrats’ attempts to oust him for allegedly supporting Russian interventions in the US presidential campaign that brought him to the White House in 2016, and after two years of investigations, special investigator Robert Mueller failed to present any evidence against Trump. The Democrats’ attempts to go after Trump have not ended at the periphery of politics, but have overtaken the president’s personal life, with accusations of him of paying money to silence presumed mistresses around him. The results of the impeachment trial may condemn President Trump and find him guilty of exploiting his position, but this would happen in parallel with a conviction against Biden, who is also accused of corruption and abuse of influence for personal and familial gain. It is a conviction that will not only end Biden’s career, but also harm Democrats and possibly pave the way for Trump to win a new presidential term under the protection of the Republican-controlled Senate. Democrats, in their campaign against Trump, are looking for the slightest dirt they can dig up, and that is no secret to Trump. They wanted to get rid of him, before he started a campaign to get rid of them, and therefore leaked the transcript of the call that revolves around their favorite candidate, Biden. Trump threw the Democrats the bait, leaving them no choice but to swallow it. He is certainly not betting on an acquittal and knows he is not above the law, but Trump is betting that the Democrats’ campaign against him will serve his own agenda and have a positive impact on his re-election strategy. – Ali Qassem (translated by Asaf Zilberfarb)
