Jokha Alharthi became the first author from an Arab country to win the Man Booker International Prize, and the first Omani woman to have a novel translated from Arabic to English. Celestial Bodies, written by Alharthi and translated by Marilyn Booth, is a coming-of-age account of three sisters in post-colonial Oman. The prize, which comes with a £50,000 award, celebrates the finest works of translated fiction from around the world.
