On April 8 from 10 am to 11 am Eastern Daylight Time (North America), the Middle East Institute (MEI) will bring together a panel of experts to look at the short- and long-term economic impacts of the COVID-19 crisis, and to explore the policy options to sustain economies through the extended crisis and prepare for rapid recovery when it ebbs.
The panel will look at how both governments and the private sector are, or should be, responding. Of course, the pandemic has also been accompanied by an oil price war; panelists will explore how that particularly impacts energy exporting economies.
What are the best ways to promote socio-economic resilience during the crisis, and inclusive and sustainable recovery in the future? How can forward-thinking measures help regional economies withstand suspension of travel and tourism, slow down of trade, and lock down of national economies? What policies do states as well as international governments and organizations need to put in place to help sustain battered economies, and what policies can prepare regional economies for a quick rebound as the pandemic ebbs?
