Born in Somalia and raised in Kenya Refugee Camp in Dadaab, Omar will be presenting about Somalia deaf culture. Participants will learn about the deaf community, including the deaf education crisis, religious practices and values, traditions, food, signs, vocabulary, Muslim faith, and his story about why he came to America.
Educational objectives:
- Learn different traditional food eaten in Somalia culture
- Learn holiday traditions and religious practices in Somalia culture
- Learn at least 10 words and signs in ASL specific to Somalia culture
