About this event

Our Town Hall

International attention was given to the recent violence between Israel and Gaza leading to the cease-fire on May 21st. But U.S. mainstream media has rarely reported on the details behind the situation.

Our speaker, Yassar Dahbour, will provide a Palestinian perspective on the root causes of their struggle and the potential pathways forward towards peace with justice.

About Our Speaker

Yassar Dahbour was born in a refugee camp in Syria where his family had resided after they were evicted from Palestine in 1948. In the course of the Palestinian diaspora, he settled in Sacramento, California in 1991 where he pursued an education in political science, business administration and technology. Having grown up in a refugee camp, he became a human rights activist fixated on the Palestinian cause from a young age. Following this passion, Mr. Dahbour served as a member and later President of the General Union of the Palestinian Students in his undergraduate and graduate academic career; moreover, he cofounded the Political Students Forum at California State University, Sacrament. He later co-founded the Sacramento Regional Coalition for Palestinian Human Rights where he still serves as a board member. Currently, he is the president of the Palestine American League (PAL) and the Political Director and cofounder of Democrats for Justice in Palestine. Mr. Dahbour is serving his second term as Assembly District Delegate (District 9) and is an executive board member of the California Democratic Party (CDP). He was recently elected Chair of the Arab American Caucus at the CDP.
